It's a........ Baby!!

If you've been reading along, then you know that yesterday Michael and I had our mid-pregnancy sonogram.  :)  During this appointment the sonographer measured various parts of the baby including around the middle, the head size, and lengths of arm and leg bones.  Yesterday we were 19 weeks and 5 days along.  We also found out the gender of the baby.  :)  There is still time to make your guesses before the news goes public on Christmas.  ;)  So here's how the appointment went!

First off, the baby is doing GREAT!  Even though we are at 19 weeks and 5 days, the baby was measuring closer to 20 weeks.  I was pretty shocked by this!  Here's a little history on why: when Michael and I were trying to get pregnant again, I used an ovulation predicter kit to know when the best time to try was.  According to when I ovulated, the baby should only be measuring about 19 weeks yesterday.  But every time we've seen the baby and taken measurements, the measurements have shown 3 days later, 19 weeks, 3 days.  So my doctor left my due date at the gestational age according to my last period, 19 weeks, 5 days.  And now the baby is measuring even bigger!  20 weeks!  Did you get all of that?  Haha!  Here's a simpler way of looking at in:
Baby's gestational age based on:
Ovulation - 19 weeks
Early Measurments - 19 weeks, 3 days
Last Period - 19 weeks, 5 days
Mid Pregnancy Measurements - 20 weeks
I know that might not seem like much to you, but in that last week of pregnancy, I will take every day I can get!!  Based on ALL of that information, the baby should come somewhere between May 7th and 14th.  ;)  I'm actually hoping for the 5th!  Then Michael, Avery, and the new baby's birthdays would all be on the 5th.  Although the 7th would be cool too, because then Michael and Avery would have the 5th and the new baby and I would have the 7th.  ;)  All that being said, the baby is measuring right on track and growing at a perfect rate!  :)  Everything looked good on the sono.  All of the baby's organs are working and meauring appropriately.  The baby was veeeeeeeery active during the sono, just like our 10 week sono!  That may have been my fault.  ;)  I was told to drink 8-10 oz before going to my sono, so I made it 8 oz of very sugary and carbonated grape juice!!  :D  I wanted the baby to move if we needed it to, and boy, did that baby move!!  We even got a video of it!  I'll try to get it posted to youtube soon.  :)  The baby's heartrate was 133 beats per minute.  Quite a bit lower than the last couple of times we've been in, but still nice and healthy!!  :)  The other thing we found out was that the baby's placenta is laying between the baby and the outside of my stomach.  This means that movement will take longer to feel from the outside.  This also explains why I've been feeling internal movement, like rolling, but not as much with my hands on the outside of my stomach.  I'm sure there's a medical term (either anterior or posterior) but neither our doctor nor the sonographer used the phrase, so I'll have to look it up.  The baby was also measuring at about 11 ounces right now (which happens to be the same weight Avery was measuring at this point in the pregnancy).  At 20 weeks the baby is expected to weight around 10.5 ounces, and we're not at the 20 week mark until tomorrow, so the baby is gaining weight and growing like a weed!  :D  I estimated with Avery that she would be over 8 pounds based on all the information I had before she arrived.  She only ended up being 7 pounds, 6 ounces, so I was wrong on that one.  But I'm going to go ahead and make the same prediction for this one.  Based on what I know, this baby should be smaller, but continues to grow at a great pace!  So I'm going to guess that at birth, this baby will be right around 8 pounds.  :)  We will just have to wait and see!  Almost halfway done!!  Thanks for reading along, especially if you made it to the end of this!  :)  Remember, the gender and name will be posted on Christmas (or shortly thereafter, as it will probably be frowned upon if I'm blogging too much on Christmas day).  ;)  So stay tuned for the gender and name of the final member of the Voss Clan!  :)

Finally, I would like to say thank you to all of you who prayed (and continue to pray) for Michael, the baby, and me.  We appreciate those prayers so much and felt peace as we entered our sonogram yesterday thanks to you.  :)  I was so happy to find out that the baby was healthy and that everything is going well.  So thank you for standing by us and lifting us up in prayer.  We greatly appreciate it.  :)  Continue to pray for us, as we still have 20 more weeks to go, and then a lifetime of learning how to be parents.  ;)  Thank you!

We love you all so much!  Hope your holiday season is going well!  Stay warm, stay safe, and have a very Merry Christmas!
With Love,
Michael, Jen, Avery, and the Vossling  ;)
